Considering themselves a hardy sort, Norwegians feel a kinship with the White-throated Dipper – the fossekall, their national bird – due to its inherent ability to thrive in barren environments. This plump, gray aquatic bird with the white bib can be found in foothills near rivers and streams, flying along the water’s surface, dipping right into the water, or hopping about the wet rocks.
