Alaska and British Columbia—Inside Passage, Bears and Aleutian Islands (Northbound)
Whiskered Auklet
Aethia pygmaea
This incredibly rare, small seabird is found only in remote areas of the Aleutian Islands. On this expedition, you’ll stop in Dutch Harbor and St. Matthew Island, and have a chance to spot one among the shallow coastal waters, poking about the rocky cliffs. Their remarkable plumage helps them find their way along dark cave walls, and, interestingly, has a citrus-like odor. The rare McKay’s Bunting is also spottable on an expedition to this region.
